The Australia’s Mining Monthly Awards are back, with additional categories aimed at better reflecting the challenges facing the mining industry. Nominations for the awards opened on 1 October and will close on 20 December 2019.

The qualifying period for all awards is from 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019.

Noel Dyson, Editor, Aspermont
Noel Dyson is a resources and finance journalist with almost two decades experience. He is editor of Aspermont's flagship publication Australia's Mining Monthly and was also the company's Senior Editor - Energy, which included oversight of its Energy News Premium, Energy News Bulletin and International Coal News online products and International Coal News magazine. Prior to working for Aspermont, Noel held a number of editorial roles with respected metropolitan business newspaper WA Business News.

Lou Caruana, Coal Editor, AMM
Lou Caruana writes about coal and longwall mining for Australia’s Mining Monthly. He has a degree in journalism from Charles Sturt University in New South Wales and has written about mining and resources for daily newspapers and magazines for more than 20 years.  He has a special interest in innovation and safety in mining and frequently writes columns about these issues for Australia’s Mining Monthly. Lou also regularly visits mine sites and attends coal mining industry conferences to keep abreast of developments in mining technology and innovation, especially in relation to longwall and underground coal mining in Australia.

David Upton, Journalist and commentator
David Upton is one of the Australia’s leading writers on mineral exploration. He completed a BSc in geology at Flinders University before turning to journalism, and now combines both interests to write in-depth stories that reveal the geoscience and the exploration strategy behind mineral discovery. In 2010, Upton self-published The Olympic Story, which has sold almost 2,000 copies, and was co-author of a 2015 report by The Boston Consulting Group on solutions to the global crisis in mineral discovery. He is a leading advocate for pre-competitive geoscience and believes it will pave the way for a new wave of Tier 1 discoveries in Australia over the next 10 to 15 years.

Sabina Shugg, Director Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mining Innovation Hub, Non-Executive Director Resolute Mining, and Founder and Chair WIMWA
Sabina is the Executive Director of the newly created Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mining Innovation Hub – an initiative funded by CRC ORE. Sabina is a mining engineer by background and founded and runs the very active Women in Mining and Resources WA (WIMWA) group which has grown to 2500 members state-wide since its inception in 2003. Sabina was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for her significant service to the mining industry through executive roles in the resources sector, and as a role model and mentor to women. Sabina believes we all have to show leadership by standing up for what you believe in and getting involved and supporting others.

Paul Lucey, CEO, Project 412
Paul is a Digital Integration provider and Autonomous Vehicle provider taking automotive automation and converting for use in mining. He has over 28 years of experience in the Resource sector in the process control, engineering and technology, and innovation space. Paul is a former VP of Technology and Innovation for large multinational Gold mining company and former founder and CEO of Mine Vision System, a 3D spatial technology company. Paul is currently  a director at Unearthed Solutions, mining’s leading innovation supplier and METSignited - one of the Australia Federal Government’s innovation growth centres.

Now in its fourth year, the Australia’s Mining Monthly Awards will celebrate and recognise excellence in mining. We'd like to get your views in by 20 December 2019.

• Nominations are open to Australian companies and employees of such.

• Judging is based on the qualifying period of 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019.

• All judges decisions are final. 

• Nominations must be completed on the form specific to the category being entered.

• Nominations close midnight (AWST) 20 December 2019.

• Results will be published within Australia's Mining Monthly magazine and online via Miningmonthly.com on 2 March 2020.
